10 films to watch together on a romantic Valentine’s Day in

Grab the popcorn and wine, and just chill

Valentine’s Day is all about spreading and feeling the love, and sometimes, that can just mean snuggling with your boo during a cosy night in while pigging out on junk food and watching a good film. And these romantic films will set the tone perfectly for a comfy movie night at home.

1. The Notebook

Or any other Nicholas Sparks film, really. The Notebook is set in 1946 in North Carolina and is about a poor, yet passionate, young man who falls in love with a rich young woman but are soon separated because of their social differences. But you knew that already, didn’t you? (If you didn’t, you’ve got to watch it!) Also, hello? Ryan Gosling!

2. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

One of last year’s most popular films on Netflix hit us in the feels… in all the right places. It’s a sweet film that speaks truthfully of today’s dating scene, where a teenage girl’s secret love letters to her former crushes are exposed and wreak havoc on her love life. This film also gave everyone an internet boyfriend – Noah Centineo. You’ll understand what we mean when you watch it.

3. Love, Rosie

Love, Rosie is all about two teens, Rosie and Alex who have been best friends since they were five. When it comes to love, life and making right choices, these two are their own worst enemies. It’s a heart-warming yet rollercoaster ride of a movie, with the best ending. Also, Sam Claflin is everyone’s ideal man. There’s no point in arguing about it.

4. Moulin Rouge

If you’re after a movie with a bit more va va voom in it, then Moulin Rouge is the one for you. Christian, a poet, falls for Satine, a beautiful courtesan whom a jealous duke covets. Get ready though, this one’s a tear-jerker, especially during Come What May. That song will have you ugly-crying from now until the end of time.

5. Lady and the Tramp

This one’s possibly the cutest romantic animation out there, and it’s produced by Disney so what’s not to love? Lady and the Tramp is a romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel and a streetwise downtown mutt. This pair of pups are definitely soulmates!

6. Titanic

How could we not mention this one? While you’ve probably already watched it (and balled over it, too), the film is still a classic. A 17-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S Titanic. Y’all know how it ends. Just prepare the Kleenex.

7. Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing can only be described as iconic. Spending the summer at a resort with her family, Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle. The most memorable moment? That lift. Anyway, it’s a perfect movie for your romantic night in.

8. Love, Simon

We cried watching this one. Simon is keeping a huge secret from his family, his friends and his classmates – he’s gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must come to terms with his identity and face everyone. It’s one of those feel-good films that will have you glued to your TV.

9. Casablanca

Casablanca is said to be the original and still the best romantic film of all time. In December 1941, a cynical American expatriate encounters a former lover (and we all know how good former lovers are at creating so much drama!) with unforeseen circumstances.

10. Valentine’s Day

And the most obvious choice would be Valentine’s Day. This film as all about intertwining couples and singles in Los Angeles who break-up and make-up based on the pressures (and high expectations) of Valentine’s Day. All your favourite actors and actresses appear in this one, namely Patrick Dempsey (RIP McDreamy), Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner, Eric Dane (RIP McSteamy), the one and only Queen Latifah and so many more. It’s definitely a rom-com like no other.
