10 glorious swimming pools to consider for your honeymoon itinerary

Unforgettable – that’s what this will be!

1. Villa Honegg, Switzerland

A post shared by Villa Honegg (@villahonegg) on

Situated high above Lake Lucerne in Switerland, this boutique hotel really packs a punch. With just 23 rooms, all decked out in natural materials, its understated luxury extends to the spa, which consists of a state-of-the-art gym, a sauna and a heat room as well as a crushed-iced fountain to help you cool off! But, it’s the 34ºC heated outdoor pool, with views of the mountains surrounding the lake, and a sea of clouds spread out below it, which has put this place on the map.

2. Borgo Pignano, Tuscany, Italy

This place is calling itself ‘the Tuscan haven’ and we can actually see why (though we think they actually meant heaven)! A country estate which offers maisonettes, cottages, as well as standard rooms, the grounds include an Artist’s House, a welcome retreat for the creatively inclined, and that pool, perched above the bucolic Tuscan landscape. If this doesn’t make you whip out your drawing pencils, we don’t know what will!

3. Belmond Hotel Caruso, Amalfi Coast, Italy

The magic of the Amalfi Coast, with its crystalline waters and whitewashed, tiled homes perched on the cliff-face, has attracted many stars over the years, with the town becoming the playground for the rich and famous. But, even if you’re not Matt Damon, or Gwyneth Paltrow, you too can bask in the glory of the infinity pool at the Belmond Hotel Caruso, an 11th century hotel. Not only is the view unforgettable, but you can also ask concierge to bring you an iPod preloaded with your choice of music, a fresh fruit appetiser or an Evian vaporizer. You will never want to leave.

4. Le Bristol, Paris

We turn indoors for the understated class and elegance of the pool at Le Bristol, Paris. But this is no normal indoor pool: it rests on the roof, overlooking Montmartre and the Eiffel Tower, giving you the opportunity to savour one of the world’s most iconic cityscapes, while bathing. And, if you’re bored of splashing about, you can always look for Fa-Raon, the Burmese cat who has made the hotel his home.

5. Amangiri, Arizona

Embedded in the Colorado Plateau, this place is an experience you’ll never forget. The suites themselves are stunning, with large windows looking out onto the desert, making you feel as if you’re in the Wild West. But that pool, curving around the rock, is what many come for and is what will make you want to stay – indefinitely!

6. Boucan by Hotel Chocolat, St Lucia, Caribbean

You might wonder whether you need a pool at all when you’re in the Caribbean. But, this boutique hotel, situated on a working cocoa plantation, will leave you convinced. Not only does the infinity pool have glorious views of the rainforest and the Piton mountains, but you can even book yourself a Cacao massage and facial, featuring fresh local cacao and cacao-oil lotions. Bring it on!

7. Wild Coast Tented Lodge, Sri Lanka

With a large main artificial lagoon, and several individual private swimming pools, the Wild Coast Tented Lodge in Sri Lanka doesn’t leave much to be desired, especially if you’re booking yourself in on honeymoon. The 28 accommodation huts, built using fabric, are laid out in the shape of a leopard’s paw print, and you might even catch a glimpse of the animal itself – the site is famous for its wildlife.

8. Oberoi Udaivilas Resort, Udaipur, India

Dubbed the ‘most photogenic hotel in the world’ by Business Insider, this resort in Udaipur, India is extremely Instagrammable. Water is one of the main themes of the hotel, with split-level fountains and multiple pools reflecting off Lake Pichola, over which the site rests. The resort itself is large – sitting on over 50 acres of land, 20 of which are dedicated to the exotic wildlife from the nearby sanctuary – so there’s plenty of opportunity to dive in.

9. One & Only Reethi Rah, Maldives

This resort frequently tops best hotel lists, and that’s quite a feat considering the sheer number of astounding spots in the Maldives alone. A frequent choice for many honeymooners, this set of atoll islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, captures the relaxation and indulgent luxury quintessential to such trips. And, this hotel, with its beach villas and private pools, will have you stripping off your bikini for just another dip.

10. Hanging Gardens Ubud, Bali

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, this pool rests. And you will too, when you catch sight of the hanging, split-level lagoon, perched above the trees. But, that’s not all. Private villas are spread across the grounds, each with their own private pool. Just imagine: sunset, a glass of wine and your loved one. Pure bliss.
