1. Climb to the ancient temple of Borobudur, Indonesia, nestled within Java’s jungle

Much lesser known than Machu Picchu in Peru, this vast ancient Buddhist temple in Java was built in about 800AD, centuries before Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Consisting of nine stacked platforms, it’s quite a trek to the top, but its 2000 relief panels and more than 500 Buddha statues will overwhelm you with their majesty and intricacy.

2. Enjoy a candlelit dinner on the beach in Zanzibar

The large island of Zanzibar, just off the coast of Tanzania in Africa, boasts wide expanses of pristine beaches, off which you can swim, dive or snorkel during the day. When the sun sets, however, settle in your chair for a romantic meal with your new spouse.

3. Take a view from the trees in Rotorua, New Zealand

The 5600-hectare Whakarewarewa Forest in Rotorua, New Zealand, is home to many native shrubs and grasses, but it’s the giant Californian Redwoods which astound. These towers of natural verve were sown in the area during a 1901 commercial planting experiment, but, today, visitors can enjoy the breath of fresh air they provide.
