6 iconic movie wedding dresses worn by timeless brides
Who can forget Carrie Bradshaw’s infamous gown?
1. Funny Face
This ‘50s American comedy, starring the inimitable Audrey Hepburn, sang and danced across movie screens, but it was the stunning Jo Stockton (Hepburn herself) walking up the aisle which will shine bright in our memories.
2. Out of Africa
Sydney Pollack’s Out of Africa, starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, swept audiences away when it premiered in 1985. Streep played Karen Blixen, a Danish woman who goes to Nairobi to marry her lover's brother, Baron Bror Blixen. While there, she falls in love with Denys Finch Hatton, a big-game hunter, played by Redford.
3. Romeo & Juliet
Teens across the globe swooned over a young Leonardo Dicaprio, as Romeo, while they watched his doomed love affair with Juliet, played by Claire Danes, crash and burn. Her simple wedding dress, however, ran the distance: its subtle form and fit would not look out of place today.
4. Runaway Bride
Julia Roberts has had her fair share of husbands – and weddings – so this film put a fine point on art imitating life. Also starring ‘90s sexy icon Richard Gere, it told the story of Maggie who just cannot say her ‘I do’s’! While we wouldn’t ever want to be in that position, we would say yes to her iconic dress!
5. Mamma Mia
A wedding on the beach? Look no further than Mamma Mia for inspiration (yes, here we go again). This 2008 musical romantic comedy, set on the sands of Greece, had us singing and dancing – and wishing we could look as fresh as Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) did getting hitched to Sky (Dominic Cooper).
6. Sex and the City
And, last but definitely not least, who could forget Carrie Bradshaw and her endless angst! The question on millions of women’s minds was: will she and Mr Big finally walk down the aisle? She definitely had the dress, which, with its sculptural flourishes, was as dramatic as their relationship ever was.
