7 things you’ll need to do right after your wedding

It ain’t over yet!

1. Enjoy your honeymoon!

You’ve done the work, had the celebration, now all you need to do is kick back and indulge in some time just dedicated to the two of you. Cheers!

2. Settle home

Even if you haven’t just moved into your home after the wedding, you will still need time to get your things together and nest. And, if you’ve just moved in, put aside some of your other commitments to truly make that new house a home.

3. Log the gifts

Know who gave you what, not to hold a grudge against those who were, perhaps, not that generous (they may have their reasons and not everyone enjoys the same financial circumstances), but to be able to thank your loved ones appropriately.

4. Write thank you notes

And that brings us to your thank you notes. Show your gratitude for the large, and smaller gifts, with well thought out messages, sent a few weeks after your big day. It may seem like a tiny gesture, but the sentiment will be appreciated.

5. Make sure all suppliers have been paid

The last thing you want is to have a load of people chasing you for payments! While booking your venue, catering, taxis and so on, make sure you’ve logged the expenses and the necessary contact details, to be able to tick them off your list once you’ve transferred what is owed.

6. Dry clean (or sell) your wedding dress

It may be difficult to part with your wedding dress. After all, you’ve got so many beautiful memories of the day, twirling around in that gown! But you might want to consider selling it (if you know you have no use for it). Alternatively, dry clean it and store it in a place with minimal mould!

7. Get your marriage grant sorted

Within 6 months of your ‘I do’s’ make sure you’ve applied for your marriage grant, available to all couples locally. You can get up to €554 per couple – just fill out an application form from the Department of Social Security. Some more gifts for the both of you then!
