An elegant celebration – Lesley-Ann & David

With a traditional and elegant theme in mind, the newlyweds pulled out all the stops for their big day last December.

Lesley-Ann Lewis, 30, and David Debono, 40, first met at a party in 2012, and from the moment they laid eyes on each other, Lesley recalls, she knew something was going to happen. “I instantly knew that he was going to come over and speak to me, and when he did, I realised that David was a very educated man and easy to talk to. We hit it off straight away,” she says.

After a couple of years (and a couple of hints!) David decided to pop the question. “It was Valentine’s Day of 2015, and while we were getting ready to go out, David put on some romantic music. The next thing I remember is him getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him. I was ecstatic at the prospect of becoming his wife and I couldn’t wait for the day to arrive,” Lesley recalls excitedly.

The day was set for 9th December 2017, with a ceremony at St Publius Church in Floriana, followed by a reception at Villa Arrigo, Naxxar. “Preparing for a wedding can be quite stressful but thankfully our wedding planner, Patricia Falzon from Perfect Weddings, helped us immensely,” Lesley says as she looks back on the process, adding, “David also really stepped up during the whole process, and assisted me in every possible way.”

Having always wanted a traditional and elegant wedding, Lesley and David made it the theme of their big day, for which they were joined by 400 guests. “We were extremely happy that they were able to celebrate our very special day with us,” the couple say.

When it came to choosing her dress, Lesley explains that while she was quite open to trying different styles, she wasn’t after anything “over the top.” After shopping around, Lesley found her dream dress at Alamango Bridal. “The second I saw myself in the mirror I just knew it was my dress, and yes, I did cry! The dress I chose was an ivory pink David Tutera dress, showcasing classic floral lace embroidery which added a timeless touch and a flicker of contemporary glamour,” she recalls.

A few months on, Lesley looks back on her wedding day as an incredible experience, from start to finish. “Getting ready with my amazing maid of honour, Alison, and bridesmaid, Gianella, together with my loving parents, our way towards the church, as well as celebrating with all my loved ones at the reception are moments I will treasure for all my life. However, if I have to pick my favourite part of the whole day, it’d have to be walking down the aisle towards my husband-to-be. We were both crying tears of joy, as it was such a beautiful and unforgettable moment,” she gushes.

After the wedding, the newlyweds set off to Italy for their honeymoon – a destination they both love. “We planned a short road trip in the south of Italy, where we stayed at a fabulous resort hotel, eating delicious southern Italian food and just making the most of our relaxing holiday.”

Next on the cards for the couple is moving into their new home, which they’ve just bought together. “We can’t wait to move so that we can plan on starting our very own family,” says Lesley. And while their first wedding anniversary is still a few months away and plans for how they’ll be celebrating are yet to be made, what the pair do know is that getting married was the right thing for them.

“We are more in love with each other now than ever before. We’ve always been crazy about each other, but just like any other relationship, we had our very own ups and downs. But God put David in my life and me in his for a reason, and we intend to be there for one another with each passing day.”
