Of love songs and romantic sunsets – Chrissy & Chris

Sparks flew from the get-go for these two!

Chrissy and Chris Xuereb Warrington instantly hit it off when they met six years ago. Chrissy, a 26-year-old marketing executive tells us all about her and Chris’s, a 33-year-old engineering and maintenance manager, love story.

“We met around six years ago and started dating a few months later,” she remembers. “About 3 years into the relationship we started looking into buying a house together, and that’s when the discussion really became serious.”

After talking about it, a few short months later, Chris decided to get down on one knee. “It was perfect, romantic and private,” Chrissy says, as neither of them were big on a public proposal. “Chris proposed in the kitchen of our future home. He then drove us to the spot we went to on our first date, and we then went for a lovely dinner at our favourite fancy restaurant.”

Preparations began slowly and both Chrissy and Chris had a say in the plans. “There was a great team effort to put it all together; we went to almost all appointments together and agreed upon everything. When it came to the administrative work and organising and planning everything, I took care of all that and he was a great support system. He claimed dibs over choosing the band though, and I was perfectly happy with his choice!”

After a few years of planning, their big day finally came on 31st May 2019. “It was everything we dreamt of and more – the colours, the atmosphere, and luckily enough, even the weather (despite the heavy rain the day before) – it was all perfect,” she says. “When it came to choosing the venue, we originally would have liked to have some greenery, but we incorporated that into our post-mass-pre-reception shoot and had a gorgeous and romantic sunset wedding by the sea instead.”

Chrissy and Chris had a nice cross between a traditional and unusual wedding but leaned more towards the traditional side, welcoming about 300 guests. “The venue offered quite a unique setting in comparison to most traditional weddings, but I’d say that the most non-traditional things was that after our ‘going away’, we didn’t actually leave because we were having too much fun! Oh, and I sang an original song that I wrote just for the day.”

One thing Chrissy totally took into her own hands was designing the invitations herself. “I took a big gamble because we had nothing to base my idea on, but they turned out even better than I expected,” she says. As for the souvenirs, the couple opted for “bath salts from Maison Du Savon De Marseille. Both the invites and souvenirs were blush pink and navy blue to match the colour scheme.”

Chrissy got her dress, along with the flower girls’ and bridesmaids’, from Alamango but she says it’s got a tale of its own! “I ended up buying two dresses because I rushed too much with the first one and regretted it almost instantly. The one I wore on the day made me feel like a real princess and it was just beautiful.” Chrissy has a word of advice for brides: “try on lots of different styles and don’t rush! And watch lots of ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ for some inspiration!”

The entire day went smoothly, but Chrissy admits there was one mishap before everything got started. “It was entirely my fault! I accidentally froze the two bridesmaid bouquets because I put them too close to the vent in the fridge. They were a miserable sight as soon as we took them out – brown and wilted, but with a bit of spontaneous creativity and teamwork, we solved the problem in time!”

The day went off without a hitch, but when asked to pick her favourite moment, Chrissy couldn’t choose. “It was all magical, fun, and surprisingly relaxed, from the getting ready in the morning till the very end. But some highlights were definitely greeting Chris at the end of the aisle, saying our vows, our private photoshoot, singing my song, and our first dance and my daddy-daughter dance. Every moment was special, and I wish I could do it all over again.
