Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip celebrate 71 years of marriage

They have been a couple since 1947!

The Queen of England and Duke of Edinburgh celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary yesterday – a rather rare and precious milestone for any couple. Then-Princess Elizabeth was 21 years old when she married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey on November 20th, 1947.

The Queen and the Duke have been by each other’s side for decades, with Prince Philip supporting her in her role as Head of the Commonwealth. The couple have also spoken of their love for our little island and the generosity of the Maltese, also spending a few years living here in Pieta during the Duke’s appointment with the Royal Navy in the early years of their marriage.

Last year, the royal couple marked their platinum anniversary with a top-notch black-tie reception with 100 of their closest family and friends at Windsor castle, but this year, celebrations were much quieter, with the Duke being retired and the Queen having to carry out royal engagements in London.
