“We were on a break”! 13 memorable couples throughout 10 years of Friends

Which were your favourite ones?

Have you heard? A Friends reunion is in the works, and while we’re not sure whether that means a film, follow-up series or another Instagram photo, we’re all here for it! To celebrate the amazing news, we’ve taking a trip down memory lane with a list of our favourite couples that appeared on the show.

1. Monica & Chandler

The sight of Monica and Chandler made hearts around the world flutter with happiness. It took a while for them to come together in the series, but once they did, it was totally worth the wait. From their heart-warming relationship and candlelit engagement, to their beautiful wedding and their adoption of twins, they probably take the cake as the best Friends couple.

2. Ross & Rachel

Ross and Rachel’s relationship was the ultimate ‘will they, won’t they’ one that left us on edge till the end. They had epically romantic moments, and funny ones too that are still mentioned today – “We were on a break” is a big one. But, their 10-season love journey that finally ended happily had us saying “it’s about time!”

3. Phoebe & Mike

Phoebe and Mike first met all because of one of Joey’s meddling lies, but it all turned out fine in the end. Phoebe and Mike hit it off and even got married by the end of it!

4. Rachel & Joey

Rachel and Joey were long-time pals before they took a leap into the romantic side of things. They were quite the funny and easy-going duo, but things didn’t go further than smooching as they both realised things were getting a little too weird.

5. Monica & Richard

Despite the age gap (20 years to be exact), Monica and Richard made a great couple, and possibly one of the sweetest too. The question of having children (which was a big deal-breaker) for Monica lead to them going their separate ways.

6. Carol & Susan

The pair had a rocky start, what with the whole ‘Carol still being married to Ross’ situation. But the pair had possibly one of the most endearing and encouraging relationships on the show. Their wedding was also the first lesbian wedding to air on network TV.

7. Chandler & Janice

We’re still baffled to this day that Chandler managed to stay with high-pitched, shrieking Janice. Half the time it seems he could barely stand her, and the on-and-off relationship ended when Janice returned to her ex-husband.

8. Ross & Julie

Poor Julie. She started dating Ross right as the infamous Ross and Rachel saga began. No surprise to her (or us, really), her romance with the palaeontologist didn’t go anywhere.

9. Monica & Pete

Pete was a stand-up guy who’d take Monica out on extravagant dates, completely sweeping her off her feet. Unfortunately, he got a little obsessed with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), getting himself injured many times and Monica just pulled the plug on that one.

10. Phoebe & Gary

Phoebe took a big step in her relationship when she agreed to move in with her police boyfriend, Gary. They were cute together, but when Gary shot a loudly chirping bird, Phoebe totally freaked and their relationship ended there.

11. Ross & Emily

If there’s something we learnt from this relationship is that you need to have a clear head before getting hitched, or you run the risk of saying the wrong person’s name at the altar. Ross and Emily could have been the perfect coupe but his feelings for Rachel were way stronger and after that slip up, he couldn’t deny it any longer.

12. Jack & Judy

Jack and Judy Geller were a solid relationship in a series where people were falling in and out of love. Monica and Ross’ parents were a model relationship, and it’s no wonder their kids wanted to find the right person to be with.
